Agreement Ratified and two-week strike at Gate Gourmet ends

Toronto, April 30, 2024 – Teamsters Local Union 647 announced today that workers at Gate Gourmet voted 52.6% to ratify a tentative agreement, ending a strike that had impacted air travel at Toronto Pearson Airport.

Martin Cerqua, the president of Teamsters Local Union 647, stated: “This was a war on workers in which Gate Gourmet threatened our members’ jobs and livelihoods. Regardless of these threats, our members stood up for themselves and took on this heartless corporation. Our members displayed great courage and defiance against this company. While we did improve wages, the cost-of-living crisis is still hurting our members’ families. For many of our members, this fight is not over and will not be forgotten. This battle left many of the hard-working employees of Gate Gourmet frustrated.”

The agreement includes wage increases and cost of living adjustments ranging from 15% to 30% over 5 years, depending on inflation and specific job categories. Starting today, nobody at Gate Gourmet earns less than $20 an hour.

Gate Gourmet employs over 800 workers at Pearson tasked with cooking, packing and delivering meals, snacks, beverages, and other supplies to planes for in-flight service.
