Celebrating the Marek Hospitality Cafeteria Staff

The hospitality and catering staff from Marek Hospitality will be closing down at the General Motors Propulsion Plant cafeteria in St. Catharines, Ontario. Despite the bittersweet event, the staff were also recognized and honoured for over thirty-five years of quality service at the St. Catharines location.

“I’ve worked here and been a union member for forty-three years,” says Dianne Minor, member. “This place is like family; it’s like home.”

On Wednesday, February 23, the Local 647, GM plant workers, and Marek HR representatives celebrated long-time members Linda Mearow, Dianne Minor, Velerie Brunette, and Wendy French with coffee, cake, flowers, and gifts. On behalf of the Executive Board, the Teamsters retirement watches were also presented to our members by Trustee Jeff Beer.

“It’s going to be hard to leave,” says Linda Mearow, Chief Steward. “It’s all about the people here, especially the workers. We’re so close and we’ve known each other for so long.”

“It was always a pleasure talking with our Marek members,” says Carl Davis, Secretary-Treasurer and the Business Agent for Marek Hospitality. “They were proud to be Teamsters, and we are proud to have them as our members. Linda always worked hard for her membership and fellow workers as the Chief Steward. Now, one door may have shut, but another will open. I enjoyed representing such a wonderful group of ladies.”

We wish our members both a happy retirement and all the best in their future endeavours!
