National Day of Mourning 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today, on April 28, we recognize the National Day of Mourning.

Each year, we take this day to pay our respects to the workers that were killed, injured, or have suffered illnesses due to workplace accidents or job-related incidents.

At this time, the COVID-19 pandemic is still a devastating, global issue we all face. The importance of a safe working environment has never been more prevalent for the sake of not only workers, but to their families as well.

As the world slowly starts to open up and businesses, factories, and workers all start the long journey back to “normalcy”, it is vital that we remember the losses and setbacks experienced during the pandemic. It is not enough to simply try to maintain a safe workplace—it is every worker’s right to go into their job knowing they will be protected by long-standing safety measures and procedures. Teamsters Local 647, along with our Health and Safety Committee, will continue to fight to ensure proper safety remains implemented for the sake of our members.

Every worker has a right to come home from work safe, healthy, and happy.

On this year’s Day of Mourning, we remember those lost to the pandemic, workplace incidents, and pledge to remain diligent regarding all workplace safety measures in the future.

In Solidarity,

Martin Cerqua

President
